Whether You’re A Cat, Dog or Racoon Lover, Chiang Mai Has The Purrfect Animal Cafe For You!
In the last few years, Cat Cafes have been popping up all over the world, especially in Asia. So it’s not surprising that Chiang Mai has a whole host of Cat, Dog & Mini Zoo Cafes.
Whether you’re travelling and can’t have a pet or you’re missing that special fur baby back at home, there’s plenty of cafes in Chiang Mai where you can get your Cat, Dog, Racoon, Hedgehog and even Rabbit fix!
And if you’re especially weird, why not take a trip to the ‘So Animal Cafe‘ where you can frolic around in the snake room. #What’sWrongWithYou
1. Catmosphere – North Nimman
Catmosphere is the best cat cafe in Chiang Mai and also happens to be my favourite place to get my fur baby fix. From the moment you walk in, there’s a cosy feel with lots of chilled out cats lounging around.
Each cat has a profile where you can find out if they like being picked up, have a catnip addiction or like to be adored at arm’s length. They really care about the castronauts welfare and make it a priority that they aren’t stressed out by the pesky hoomans that visit them.
Catmosphere is a space-themed cat cafe based just north of Maya shopping mall. All the cats have space-related names like Anakin, Athena and Apollo. There’s also the gorgeous Luke (Skywalker) who has a particular love of boxes.
There are 24 cats of all ages & breeds including a gorgeous Bengal cat called Eve. You also get the feel-good factor visiting this cafe as they make every effort to adopt cats rather than buy.

2. So Animal Cafe – Near Promenada
If you’re an animal lover then you’ll love the So Animal Cafe. Here you can get up close and personal with a huge variety of animals from super cute Fennec foxes, miniature monkeys, naughty raccoons and all kinds of reptiles.
The staff here are brilliant, they educate all the visitors on how to handle the animals. They’ll answer all your questions and have an in-depth knowledge of all the different species. They even hatch their own snake eggs and have baby meerkats too.
If you have an animal phobia, (definitely snakes for me!) then optionally, the staff here can encourage and help you to face that fear. But don’t worry, you won’t have snakes draped over you… unless you want to!

3. Harinezumi Cafe – Near Pantip Plaza
The delightfully cute Japanese craze of hedgehog cafes has made its way over to Chiang Mai. And if you were wondering, Harinezumi means hedgehog in Japanese.
The Harinezumi cafe has three menus available where you can buy food or drinks while you spend some time with the super-cute hedgehogs and guinea pigs. Menu’s start at 160 baht for a drink and 1 hour of hog time.
When you walk into Harinezumi you’re greeted by welcoming staff who seat you at a table with a sunken in glass fish tank. They will then ‘pair’ you with a new hedgehog friend and a pair of gloves so you can handle the prickly fella.

4. Lucky Bunny Cafe – South of Old Town
If you love rabbits, then Lucky Bunny Cafe is the place to visit in Chiang Mai. Though it’s a bit far out, it’s well worth the walk or Tuk Tuk ride.
For only 200 baht you can have 1 – 1.5 hours playing with the rabbits, learning how to care for them and feed them rabbit food with the supervision of the passionate staff here.
As well as having super cute cuddly time with the rabbits, the staff will teach you how to train their rabbits. They have knowledge on how to them with positive reinforcement so the rabbits actually really enjoy learning new tricks.
Even more exciting! They have daily bunny shows at 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm where you can see the bunnies lift dumbbells and stand on their hind legs (with lots of rabbit treats involved).
If you live in Chiang Mai and have your own rabbit, you can also book an appointment with their vet at the bunny surgery every Thursday.

5. Box Box Dog Cafe – Nimman
I have no idea why you wouldn’t love cats!? But anyhow, if you’re wondering ‘Is there a dog cafe in Chiang Mai?’, then you’re in luck!
Chiang Mai has opened its first-ever dog cafe! Its a wonderland for dog lovers, filled with excitable huskies and chilled out squishy pugs.
With over 25 well-groomed dogs, the owner of this cafe is definitely dog crazy. He brings in 6 dogs each day to play and cuddle visitors. All dogs have a 2-hour walk every day to give them lots of exercise and fresh air.
There’s a mixture of dog breeds including pugs, huskies, rough collies (lassie dogs) and golden retrievers. Most of them are older apart from one very cute bouncy puppy.
It’s good to see some strict rules regarding behaviour around the dogs as you are not allowed to feed, pick up or wake the dogs up. But you can, of course, still stroke and cuddle them to your heart’s content : )

6. Cat Brothers Cafe – Old Town
If you’re staying in Old Town then Cat Brothers Cafe is the nearest place for you to get cat cuddles. They have around 20 cats of all ages, sizes and breeds, including a beautiful Bengal kitten pictured at the top of the page.
Similar to Catmosphere, they are also conscious about keeping their cats safe and happy. With this in mind, you aren’t allowed to pick up the cats but you can feed them for 20 baht for a cup of cat food. There are lots of toys and climbing poles for the cats to enjoy so its good to see them in the morning and evening when the cats are most alert and bouncing around.
There’s a cafe on the ground floor and the cats are on the 2nd floor. To go up there you simply head up and pay your 100 baht entrance fee which includes a drink. If you’re hungry they also have a range of sweet treats like pancakes, fruit salads and Thai iced tea.

7. 猫猫咖啡 (They Call Me Cat) – South Night Bazaar
They Call Me Cat is a small Japanese owned cat cafe just south of the Old Town with 28 cats of all different sizes including a very beautiful Bengal cat.
Mid-afternoon is the best time to visit as this is when the fur babies will be the most active. Here you can feed the cats for 15 baht and have all the strokes you want, though picking up the cats is not allowed.
The cats here have so much to play with as there are ladders and platforms mounted on the walls and scratching posts dotted about this place. You’ll definitely get some great selfies with these furry divas.
If you’re peckish they also have a hooman menu with gyozas, fries, carbonara and desserts to choose from.

8. Cat Station – Old Town
This is more of a cafe that has 6 cats for you to play with, rather than a designated cat cafe like Catmosphere or Cat Brothers Cafe.
Located in Old Town, Cat Station is a super chilled outdoor cafe covered in green plants with a chilled vibe. They have a large menu of breakfast plates, Thai food and some particularly yummy paninis.
If your idea of heaven is stroking a cat, sipping a coffee and watching the world go by in Old Town, then this is the cafe for you.
It’s also a great place if you have kids younger than 6 who are interested in cats as lots of animal cafes do have an age limit.

9. Aries Sheep Cafe -South CNX Airport
Yes, you read that right, it’s a cafe where you can pet and feed sheep whilst sipping on your latte. If you’re not from the UK, where sheep are very common, then this could be a novel place to get your animal and coffee fix.
The Aries Sheep Cafe is southwest of Chiang Mai airport so its best to visit here via scooter or a grab taxi. Surrounded by green fields and open space, this place has a relaxing countryside vibe.
As they don’t have any age restrictions for children, it’s a great morning out for all the family. For 20 baht you can feed the sheep a bundle of hay and pet them to your heart’s content.
They also have some yummy Thai desserts like shaved ice and mango sticky rice. If you’re looking for a Western meal, Rosie’s Roadhouse Pizza is close by which is famous for authentic New York pizza.
