Amazing Chiang Mai Rooftop Bars

What’s The Best Rooftop Bar in Chiang Mai? + The Best Bar To Watch The Sunset Over Doi Suthep!

You’re in luck as I’ve done the incredibly taxing job of hunting down and drinking at all the Best Rooftop Bars in Chiang Mai, You’re Welcome 🍹.

It’s way more magical (& let’s be honest… Instagram-friendly) being among the clouds and twinkling lights of Chiang Mai than sipping a beer on a plastic chair by the busy roadside.

After a long day of exploring temples, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a cold beer or sweet mango cocktail with a beautiful view of the sun setting behind Doi Suthep mountain.

In this handy guide, you’ll find a rooftop bar for everyone: whether you’re wearing your 50 baht flipflops and that Chang vest you bought in Khao-san or you’re following Korea’s latest fashion trends.

If you’re looking for a classy place to take a date or just fancy treating yourself, this is the rooftop bar for you.

For the cocktail lovers, they have a fantastic buy 1 get 1 free deal every day from 5:30 – 6:30pm. I recommend the ‘One Night in Chiang Mai’ & ‘Passion Amaretto’ cocktails.

To go up you simply enter the Italics restaurant and one of the staff will take you up in the lift. Though there’s no strict dress code, it is an up-market place so think shirts and light summer dresses.

Although it’s incredibly tempting (especially after 6 cocktails) to cool off in the pool, it’s normally only available to hotel guests. Once in a while though, they host an all day happy hour pool party, so make sure to check out their facebook page for details of the next event.

Woods Bar Rooftop is past the Maya mall on the left side of the road. It’s a great place to get 360 views of Doi Suthep and gaze up at the roaring bellies of planes overhead.

To access this rooftop bar you head around the back of the building and press 12 in the elevator.

They’ve got a range of drinks including local craft beers like Chiang Mai Blossom Weizen and from the local onemorebrewing company, owned by Monmek bar.

This is a chilled out bar with no dress code, so feel free to wear that 7/11 vest you bought on Khao San Road. There was no table service when I visited so head up to the bar to order.

3. THC Rooftop Bar – Old Town

THC Rooftop Bar Chiang Mai

You only have to go through a handful of Google reviews to see how many people have visited THC rooftop bar hoping for more than just a cold Singha. The name is from the original shop downstairs called ‘Thai Hemp Clothing’ which letters conveniently form the acronym for the psychoactive compound of marijuana.

Despite the fact they don’t sell weed, it still maintains a hippy, floor pillows and chilled out reggae vibe. This is an eclectic haunt for holidaymakers of all ages whether you’re a 60s freedom child or a couple of first-time travellers.

There’s a mixture of local & international craft beers and amazing frozen cocktails from a huge menu. They’re also known for their crazy shots like ‘liquid marijuana’ and Absinthe. I’ve heard that the Bob Marley shot is particularly gross but I’ll have to confirm it for myself.

Myst bar is a premium cocktail bar perched precariously on top of the swanky Maya shopping mall. It has a mixed crowd of locals and tourists alike and usually has a DJ at the weekend.

They’re well known for their high-quality cocktails prepared with lots of bartender finesse. This usually involves them setting fire to various ingredients and chucking bottles of spirits around.

If you look under 21 (don’t we all darling) then make sure to bring your ID as for some reason they’re hot on asking for it.

Parallel Universe of Lunar 2 on Hidden Moon

Head up to the top floor of PUOLTOTHM for beautiful views of Doi Suthep. This is a hipster craft beer bar which serves a huge variety of imported and local Thai craft beers.

Walking around the glamorous Italian-inspired eating and shopping centre, ONE Nimman, you’d never guess there was a funky urban craft beer bar upstairs. If you’re bringing friends along, be aware that they don’t serve wine or cocktails, only craft cider and beers.

The views from up there are amazing, especially at sunset. This bar is across the road from Maya so you could visit Myst rooftop bar on the same evening.

There’s a large range of cocktails available from 260 baht and they even have a happy hour between 6 and 7:30 pm every day. Try the unusual ‘North Fizz’ cocktail with basil and gin.

If you visit during the rainy season (July-Oct) they often close the rooftop bar. But never fear as downstairs you’ve got the excellent On the Ping Riverfront Eatery for champagne and fine dining. All with a beautiful river view.

7. Xanadu Rooftop Pub & Restaurant – Huay Kaew Road

Xanadu Rooftop Pub & Restaurant

It must be one of the only bars in Chiang Mai that refers to itself as a ‘pub’ but for me, being from the UK, it has a familiar and homely ring to it.

Don’t worry, Xanadu bar looks nothing like the dark smokey pubs in the UK. The rooftop here is massive and with the white table cloths and waistcoat wearing waiters, it does have more of a dining vibe to it.

This said, they have a large drinks menu and regularly have live bands on at the weekend. It’s one of the cheaper rooftop bars that still has a spectacular view of the mountain and Huay Kaew Road, so it’s worth checking out.

8. Oasis Rooftop Garden – Old Town

Oasis Rooftop Garden Chiang Mai

Tucked away in the Old Town is this sunset gem. Forget your flashy decor and dress codes, if you want to rock up in your flip flops and enjoy a cold beer, then this is your jam.

Oasis Rooftop Garden has lots of classic cocktails to choose from on a detailed menu that labels the ingredients. They also have a large selection of craft beers including Belgian beers like Kastell and Blanche De Namur.

Don’t be put off by the sketchy entrance, you’re in the right place, just head on up the stairs and you’ll emerge onto the cushion filled rooftop bar.

9. Hotel Yayee – Nimman

Hotel Yayee Nimman Rooftop Bar

If you’ve ventured south into Nimman to either Beast Burger or Rockme Burger, then you’ve probably seen the quaint sparkling lights of Yayee Rooftop Bar.

Head inside the hotel, and to your right past the hotel reception you’ll find the glass elevator. Take it up to the top floor for stunning views of Doi Suthep and a great place to watch the sunset while sipping on local beers, wines or the cocktail menu.

Service was slow when we visited and it shut around 11:30. Worth it for the view, but otherwise, there are plenty of rooftop options with a smile.

I was rather drunk on Sangsom when I visited and forgot to take a picture of the menu. Feel free to comment below with the prices if you visit : ).
